It’s a common tactics of husbands to hide their true income from their counterparts for various reasons, and especially when they are fighting long and tedious legal battles in Indian courts.
Though rights of a married woman in India do entitle a wife to claim maintenance from her husband, but in the absence of knowledge of his salary and remuneration, the right to secure maintenance becomes a matter of a long battle of many years.
At this juncture, the Hon’ble Madras High Court in the case of “V.A. Anand vs. The State Information Commissioner and Ors.” held that a wife is legally entitled to know the salary of her husband.
The judgment has delivered an important ruling as the same protects women from facing acute financial hardships and destitution, and further strengthen the women safety laws in India.
